When I started planning this trip, I wanted to know whether Generations Riviera Maya was really worth it for families—or if it was just another beautiful all-inclusive resort. After spending several days there, I finally have my answer. After two hours in the air, the last thing I wanted to think about was transportation. Picture this: you've just landed after a long flight, the kids are either sleepy or already asking when they'll get to the beach, and all you want is to get to the hotel without worrying about anything else. Then a comfortable van pulls up with cold drinks and snacks waiting for you. Honestly, that little welcome felt like the first vacation treat—not just for the kids, but for the adults too. That airport transfer is included with Generations Riviera Maya's More Inclusive® concept, something that not every all-inclusive resort offers. It may seem like a small detail, but after a long travel day, not having to arrange transportation makes a surprisingly big difference. About 25 minutes after leaving Cancun International Airport and driving through the lush Mayan jungle, we arrived at the resort. The welcome couldn't have been warmer: a glass of sparkling white wine, a refreshing lavender-scented towel, and smiling staff ready to help us settle in. Many upscale all-inclusive resorts greet guests with a welcome drink and a cool towel, but there's something about the calming scent of lavender after a long journey that instantly tells your body it's finally time to relax.

Rooms
Rooms and Family Amenities at Generations Riviera Maya
With more than 150 suites spread across hundreds of acres of lush Mayan jungle, Generations Riviera Maya feels more like a small tropical village than a traditional resort. Because the property is so expansive, golf carts quickly become the easiest—and most fun—way to get around. One of them took us to our room: an Oceanfront Swim-Up Suite that completely won me over. The first thing I noticed wasn't the ocean view or the direct pool access—it was the scent. The room felt fresh, spacious, and incredibly peaceful, while our private terrace opened directly onto a semi-private swim-up pool overlooking the Caribbean. Safe to say, I fell in love with it almost instantly.
Restaurants
Restaurants at Generations Riviera Maya: Is the Food Worth It?
One of the biggest surprises during my stay was the food. Generations Riviera Maya is home to five specialty restaurants, each offering a completely different dining experience. You can enjoy authentic Indian cuisine at Habb, Asian specialties at Jade, grilled seafood and steaks at Palms, international buffets at Chef Market, or wine-paired dining at Wine Kitchen.
A Culinary Journey from India to the Caribbean
If I had to recommend just one restaurant, it would be Habb.
Its minimalist architecture immediately transports you to South Asia, but the real highlight is Chef Sanjeev's cuisine. His dishes celebrate the flavors of India through fragrant spices, vibrant colors, and recipes prepared with remarkable care. During our dinner, we enjoyed chicken tikka masala, crispy samosas, and a flavorful biryani that quickly became one of my favorite meals of the trip.
One detail I found especially meaningful was the atmosphere. Seeing Indian families—including women wearing hijabs—and guests from many different countries enjoying the food and complimenting the chef made the restaurant feel genuinely authentic. It wasn't just themed décor; it felt like a place where cultures naturally came together around the table.
Breakfast deserves a little planning, though. If you're visiting on a weekend, I'd recommend arriving early at either Chef Market or Palms. Generations Riviera Maya is a popular destination for Indian destination weddings, so large groups often dine at the same time. The staff works hard to keep things moving, but we learned our lesson after spending valuable vacation time waiting in line—and eventually leaving for our morning activities without breakfast.
If you have the chance, don't miss breakfast at Palms. With panoramic Caribbean views, attentive service, and a relaxed beachfront atmosphere, it was one of my favorite ways to start the day. My recommendation? Order the smoked salmon bagel, pair it with a mimosa, and simply enjoy the ocean while the rest of the resort slowly wakes up.
Amenities
What Is Included with More Inclusive at Generations Riviera Maya?
One of the reasons Generations Riviera Maya stands out from many other all-inclusive resorts is its More Inclusive® concept. Beyond unlimited food and drinks, your stay includes a collection of experiences both inside and outside the resort, making it feel like you're getting much more than just a hotel vacation.
Family Amenities Beyond the Beach
The resort has been designed with families in mind. Younger children can spend the day at the Eko Kids Club, where they’ll find supervised activities ranging from arts and crafts to cooking workshops, educational games, movies, and video games. I even joined one afternoon to paint a little stone—proof that you're never too old for arts and crafts on vacation. Teenagers have their own Family Lounge with pool tables, board games, and entertainment areas, while adults can choose between yoga classes, aqua aerobics, beach sports, kayaking, snorkeling, a fully equipped fitness center, or a relaxing treatment at Naay Spa. My advice? Take some time to explore the resort on your first day and check the daily activities schedule. You might stumble upon a painting workshop, a poolside fitness class, or even a Starbucks hidden within the resort.
Why More Inclusive Is Worth It
Another advantage of staying at Generations Riviera Maya is that guests aged 18 and older also enjoy access to the neighboring adults-only resorts, El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas Royale. Through the More Inclusive® program, you can dine at their restaurants, relax by their pools, and experience additional bars and facilities without booking another hotel. The package also includes off-site experiences such as Aqua Nick or Aktun Chen Park, a catamaran and snorkeling excursion at Punta Maroma, cenote activities, and eco-tourism adventures in Rancho Bonanza, adding even more value to your stay.
Aqua Nick and Punta Maroma: My Favorite Included Experiences
One of the highlights of my trip was spending a day at Aqua Nick, the water park at Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya. Seeing SpongeBob's Bikini Bottom come to life, floating along the lazy river, racing down colorful slides, and joining the famous slime party instantly brought back my inner child. The kids in our group disappeared into the water within minutes—and honestly, the adults weren't far behind. If you're traveling with children, I'd recommend setting aside an entire day for Aqua Nick. Between the attractions, character meet-and-greets, and family-friendly atmosphere, it's much more than just a water park. Just one piece of advice: bring a little extra money if you plan to shop at the souvenir store, because it's almost impossible to leave empty-handed. The following morning, we headed to Punta Maroma, often considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mexican Caribbean. After boarding a catamaran, we sailed into crystal-clear waters for a snorkeling excursion. I have to admit, I was nervous at first. Although I now take swimming lessons, it had been years since my last snorkeling adventure. But the moment I slipped into the water, my fears disappeared. Schools of tropical fish swam all around me, followed by a graceful sea turtle and, just before we returned to the boat, a stingray gliding silently beneath us. It was one of those moments that reminds you why exploring the ocean is always worth it. Back on shore, we wrapped up the experience with lunch at Cocotales, where colorful Caribbean décor and an abundant buffet featuring everything from octopus ceviche and wood-fired pizza to cochinita pibil tacos made for the perfect ending to an unforgettable morning.
